- Fusilli pasta – This spiral shaped pasta is often confused with rotini, and you can use rotini if you have it.
- Spicy Italian sausage – We used ground Italian sausage, you can purchase sausage links and remove the casings and the recipe will work the same.
- Tomato paste
- Crushed tomatoes
- Chicken stock – This adds an additional level of flavor, boiled right into the pasta.

How to make this spicy sausage pasta recipe
Brown the sausage. In a large dutch oven over medium high heat, brown the sausage. Once the sausage is cooked through, stir in minced garlic, tomato paste and red pepper flakes.
Combine remaining ingredients. Add crushed tomatoes, chicken stock, water, pasta and basil. Cover and bring to a boil. Lower heat and simmer until pasta is tender.
Garnish and serve.
